From Chance to Choice

There is a quiet, unseen power that shapes the lives of each of us - the power of choice. But before we come to understand its true significance, we often find ourselves swept up in the currents of chance, as if life were a river whose course we did not determine. Initially we believe to be born into circumstances not of our choosing, raised among people whose dreams and fears shape us before we have the language to know our own desires.

But over time, we begin to understand that even in the impermanence of life, there is a sacred invitation to choose. To choose is not to escape any perceived randomness of the world; rather, it is to engage with it, to claim the power we have to direct our response. The question is not whether we can control the forces that seem to shape us, but whether we can choose how we will be in response to them. Our capacity to choose is, in itself, a divine gift and the spiritual truth of our existence!

When we move from chance to choice, we claim a deeper sense of the presence we know as the great I AM. We may not always control the events that come our way, but we can choose how we will meet those events. Will we respond with fear or with faith? Will we turn away and be in despair, or will we know the truth of who we are and know that God is already present in those circumstances we face? Every decision, no matter how small, alters the course of our journey, giving us dominion over our future.

The journey from chance to choice is the journey of becoming. We are not merely creatures of fate, but co-creators with the divine, shaping the world with the choices we make.
